Tri-County Waste Reduction Awards Program Seeks Applicants

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Tri-County Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) is currently seeking applications from businesses, educational institutions, non-profits, residents and governments who have shown leadership in implementing and promoting waste reduction practices.

The WRAP program is sponsored by recycling professionals in Eaton, Ingham and Clinton counties, including the City of East Lansing. The program was established in 2003 and since that time has recognized dozens of organizations in the region for their outstanding efforts. Last year, ten WRAP awards were presented to a number of area recipients. Area recipients included the General Motors Delta Plant, Sleepy Hollow State Park, St. Johns High School and several others.

The mission of WRAP is to publically acknowledge residents, businesses, governments, educational institutions and non-profit organizations in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties that have exemplary waste reduction and recycling practices and encourage others in the community to increase their efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Applications are available at the City of Lansing Web site, www.lansingmi.gov; the City of East Lansing Web site, www.cityofeastlansing.com; and the Clinton County Web site, www.clinton-county.org. Applications can also be obtained by calling or e-mailing Lori Miller at City of Lansing Waste Reduction Services, (517) 483-4599 or lmiller@lansingmi.gov.

Applicants will be recognized at a special Earth Day luncheon in April. Awards will be given to those with the most outstanding programs and accomplishments. Contact East Lansing Environmental Specialist Dave Smith at (517) 337-9459 for more information.
