Cedar Fest Sentencing Update

 
EAST LANSING, Mich. - A 20-year-old Novi man convicted by a jury of drunk and disorderly conduct, including the discharge of a fire extinguisher, during Cedar Fest was sentenced Friday, Sept. 26 to 30 days in jail.

In addition to jail time, East Lansing 54-B District Court Judge Richard Ball placed Alexander Bartlett on probation for six months and ordered him to pay $1,694.40 in fines, costs and assessments, including $1,074.40 in restitution for expenses incurred by the City of East Lansing, expenses incurred by assisting agencies and damage to private property during the riot. Bartlett was also prohibited from entering on to any public college, community college or university campus prior to Dec. 31, 2008.

An 18-year-old East Lansing man convicted by a jury of maintaining a fire in the Cedar Village area during Cedar Fest was sentenced Thursday, Sept. 25 to 30 days in jail.

In addition to jail time, East Lansing 54-B District Court Judge David L. Jordon placed Essa Ghazi Mustafa on probation for 24 months and ordered him to pay $2,214.40 in fines, costs and assessments, including $1,074.40 in restitution for expenses incurred by the City of East Lansing, expenses incurred by assisting agencies and damage to private property during the riot.

Mustafa was also ordered to complete a substance abuse treatment program while on probation and was prohibited from possessing or consuming any alcohol or illegal drugs. He is required to perform breath and urine tests to show he has not violated the probation order. Mustafa was also prohibited from entering on to any public college, community college or university campus for one year. Mustafa must also perform 40 hours of community service.
