EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD), in partnership with the Michigan State University Police Department (MSUPD), have allocated $5,000 in rewards for tips leading to the arrest of individuals who committed criminal acts during Cedar Fest. Through the reward fund and the hard work of the Cedar Fest Riot Taskforce - formed in response to the April 5 riot - 13 tips were paid and 16 additional people were arrested, convicted and charged for unlawful behavior. The $5,000 awarded included a reward of $1,000 (the highest reward amount) to one individual. “Rioting is a crime against the community. It has a negative impact on the collective reputation of everyone. Although the majority of individuals in this community chose not to participate, anyone associated with the City of East Lansing or Michigan State University was impacted negatively by Cedar Fest,” said East Lansing Police Chief Tom Wibert. “I want to publicly thank the people who came forward and provided information. A majority of them were not motivated by the money. They were motivated by justice and doing the right thing. Just the same, we are happy to be able to reward them accordingly.” Although several tips have been received in the more than five months since Cedar Fest, there is money still available in the reward fund for additional tips. Members of the public with Cedar Fest information are still encouraged to come forward. A photo gallery of Cedar Fest suspects that still need to be identified can be viewed at www.cityofeastlansing.com/cedarfest. The identity and/or information about these suspects can be reported through an online submission form or by calling 1-800-ELPD-TIP. The amount of reward for each reported tip will be determined at a later time.
